As a preface to the Working Objective of this Blog (posted below), I would like to give you a brief idea of my background, beliefs and ambitions.
I completed a Bachelor of Communication (Media) at RMIT in 2006. My major was Cinema Studies and Film and TV Production. After working long hard hours to establish a career as a working professional in the Film and TV Industry, I felt like I was wasting my most developed talent, written communication.
Thus, in the middle of 2008, I started looking into the possibility of Post-Graduate Study. Initially I considered the Melbourne J.D., Post-Grad Law and International Relations at ANU. I soon realised that my initial instinct to study Media, post-Year 12, was founded on solid grounds.
As far as memory serves, I have been obsessed with media, indiscriminate of the medium within which I have consumed it; film, television, radio, internet or print. Put simply, I believe I was made to work in Communications and Media, and after a process of elimination, I’ve discovered my niche is Public Relations.
Public Relations Practitioners are in a unique position in the contemporary world with unprecedented influence on both society and the organisations whom operate within it. They have a responsibility to work ethically given such great power.
It is obvious that it is the business of any PR Firm to foster positive public opinion for their client. Part of this process is being aware of and responsive to public opinion. No longer, can an organisation operate in an unethical or dishonest manner and hope to cover it up with spin. The only thing that truly counters bad press is positive action. This is where PR Practitioners exercise great power, advocating positive change in key areas such as environment, sexual and racial equality and health and safety.
Essentially, PR Practitioners are on the front line, keeping organisations and people responsible to the people they serve. This is an industry I have a great desire to work in because I believe in my ethical core, and my commitment to truth and transparency. Hopefully, I can influence my future clients to find a proportionate balance between productivity and ethical practice, in turn maintaining favourable public opinion, increasing opportunities for positive exposure and publicity.

This Blog was created for the express purpose of analysing the Public Relations Industry in Australia. I am a prospective PR student, and am looking to forge a successful career in the industry. I have started this blog because I haven’t written in an academic fashion since I finished a Media degree in 2006. Hopefully this blog will be an engaging, thought provoking and worthwhile venture. Part of the blogs purpose is to track my working knowledge of the industry, so I apologise if there is any seemingly naive or ignorant commentary in the lifetime of this blog. I look forward to the possibility of comments, and welcome you to provoke and criticise any of my analysis or writings. Thanks for tuning in whilst I cut my teeth in this fascinating industry!
